MIPIM UK: Ashford in Kent is to have an urban extension providing an additional 5,750 homes.
The local authority granted outline consent last night for Chilmington Green, which will be developed by a consortium of house builders.
The consortium, which includes Barratt, Ward Homes, Jarvis, Pentland and Hodson Developments, is expected to build out the scheme over the next 15 to 20 years.
The development, which lies to the south west of Ashford town centre and is currently farm land, will include local retailing, four primary schools, a secondary school, and will accommodate 12,000 to 15,000 people.
Speaking on the Ashford stand at MIPIM UK, Ashford borough council economic development manager planning and development Andrew Osborne explained that housing values in Ashford have increased by15% in the last year. The development will “create supply and help keep house prices in Ashford at a reasonable level,” he said.
