Barnet meeting postponed

The special meeting of Barnet council to consider proposals for the Chipping Barnet town centre development, a source of much controversy over the past few months, has been cancelled.

To be held on April 10, the meeting has now been postponed provisionally until April 21 to enable the council and the Methodist Church Council to hold further talks.

The scheme was subject to an 11th-hour switch of developers. Abacus Developments were the original choice but, at the last minute, the council came down on Lovell Developments’ side.

The church comes into the picture because a part of the development brief was for the relocation of the existing Methodist church.

Agents for Lovell are Hillier Parker, Barrington Laurance and Langley-Taylor, with Essex Goodman & Suggitt as architects. Abacus’ architects are R Seifert & Partners, and their agents are Strutt & Parker and Lawson-Price. Debenham Tewson & Chinnocks are acting for the council.
