Curtain rises on Birmingham’s Arena Central

The first phase of the 2.3m sq ft Arena Central scheme has been approved by Birmingham city council, paving the way for a speculative start on site early next year.

Arena Central Development – the joint venture between Miller Developments’s and Andy Ruhan’s Bridgehouse Capital – will build 140,000 sq ft of grade-A office space at 1 Arena Central.

It will be the first speculative office scheme in Birmingham since the start of the new cycle.

The eight-storey building will have floorplates of 21,000 sq ft and will front Broad Street, opposite Centenary Square and the new Library of Birmingham.

The MAKE Architects design also includes around 5,000 sq ft of shops on the ground floor.

Arena Central has outline consent for a further 860,000 sq ft of offices, more than 200,000 sq ft of residential, and 1.2m sq ft of shops and leisure space.
