Leeds Development Corporation and British Gas North Eastern have launched a competition for the development of a business scheme on a 9-acre site at Meadow Lane, half a mile from the city centre.
Known as the Centre Gate site and owned primarily by British Gas, it was previously used for gas production.
Commenting on the competition, Roy Parson, regional deputy chairman of BGNE, said: “We are convinced that this will be an impressive business development and an ideal location for the national or northern headquarters of a major enterprise.”
Broad outline proposals must be submitted by May 5. Stiles Harold Williams are agents for the scheme.
