Stanhope has taken possession of London’s iconic Television Centre from the BBC six months early.
Alistair Shaw, Stanhope’s managing director of Television Centre, said: “Taking early possession enables us to get cracking on site works straight away and to start the journey to deliver an exceptional new place for this part of west London.”
The mixed-use development will include around 500,000 sq ft of office space, a commercial hub for the creative industries and 950 new homes, including affordable housing. Soho House will operate a new club, 47-bedroom hotel, roof terrace and swimming pool and restaurants which are due to open in 2017.
The BBC will return to Television Centre and BBC Worldwide will make it its new home from early 2015.
BBC Studios and Post Production will return in 2017 to start making programmes again in new state-of-the-art Studios 1-3.
Stanhope bought the site for £200m in July 2012 with funding from Mitsui Fudosan and Alberta Investment Management Corporation.
