Toys R Us to close UK stores

Toys R Us will shut all 105 of its UK stores after administrators failed to find a buyer for the business.

The retailer was initially pursuing a CVA through administrators Moorfields Advisory.

Landlords British Land, Hammerson and Aberdeen Asset Management each have six Toys R Us stores in their portfolios and will be the most affected by the collapse of the retailer.

According to EG data, the retailer’s entire portfolio stretches to 3m sq ft and the average floor plate for a store is 30,000 sq ft.

The firm is looking to close all of its stores within six weeks. Around 75 shops will close on Thursday.
