Conservative Party Conference 2019: Housing secretary Robert Jenrick has outlined plans for a green home standard and launched a consultation to overhaul the planning system.
The ministry of housing, communities and local government will ban fossil fuel heating systems on all new homes from 2025, under the Future Homes Standard. The policy will seek to cut carbon emissions by 80%.
All homes will be required to use sustainable solutions, such as air source heat pumps and solar panels.
Ministers will also consult on a new blueprint for a “simpler” planning system, as the government rolls out the national design model code, building on the national building design guide, to support local authorities.
Jenrick said: “Building new homes isn’t just about bricks and mortar, I want to ensure everyone – including developers – do their bit to protect the environment and give the next generation beautiful, environmentally friendly homes that local communities can support.”
