Westminster drives forward Victoria Station redevelopment

Westminster City Council has appointed Allies and Morrison to masterplan the redevelopment of Victoria Station.

The Victoria Station Environs Strategy will see the redevelopment of the transport hub, delivering new homes and jobs for the area in partnership with the private sector.

The council is working with Network Rail, Transport for London, the Greater London Authority and the Victoria Business Improvement District to create a vision and delivery strategy for the area.

Allies and Morrison will lead consultation with local stakeholders, seeking to strengthen the public realm and identify future sites for development in the opportunity area.

It will create a development plan of jobs and affordable homes, with short, medium and long-term projects over a 15-year period.

Key objectives will also include supporting the delivery of Crossrail 2 and providing the framework and guidelines for the redevelopment of Victoria Station.

Richard Beddoe, deputy leader (strategy) at Westminster City Council, said: “We are pioneering a new approach – exploring the development opportunities for Victoria, an innovative public private partnership looking at the wider area, meaningful engagement with the community and new funding models for investment.”

Jo Bacon, partner at Allies and Morrison, said: “The qualities of the adjoining neighbourhoods are clear and strong. We hope to build on these strengths to deliver a compelling vision that will guide London Victoria’s future”.
