Hackney Council has approved 400 homes to be developed at the council’s Kings Crescent estate regeneration.
The planning committee approved the development of 219 new homes, with a further 174 homes to be refurbished in phases 3 and 4 of the regeneration.
The new build homes designed by Karakusevic Carson architects will be in six to 11 storey towers. This includes the provision of 28 new social-rented homes and 75 shared ownership homes, delivering 50% affordable housing by habitable room.
Flats at Weston, Datchworth, Theobalds and Bramfield Court will be refurbished, with designs from Henley Halebrown architects.
Development will also include a new community centre, a public square and 2,153 sq ft of flexible workspace and retail space on Green Lanes (pictured). Tibbalds planning and urban design advised on the plans.
Ajman Ali, acting group director for neighbourhoods and housing at Hackney Council, said: “Hackney is building. These plans will provide desperately needed new council homes for local people and those on our waiting list, as well as huge investment in existing homes for tenants and leaseholders.”
The Kings Crescent estate regeneration comprises 767 homes, of which 492 will be new build and 275 refurbished. Hackney Council has a target to deliver 2,000 new homes started or completed between 2018 and 2022, with more than half for social rent and shared ownership.
