Whale-watching tail no fluke

The tail of a gigantic whale will rise from the Norwegian shoreline like an artificial hill, its graceful sweep drawing thousands to a rugged island 200 miles inside the Arctic Circle.

No, this isn’t a scene from Norse myth, nor a sign of impending Ragnarok. It is a proposed €20m visitor centre and whale-viewing platform on the island of Andoya.

The scheme will take three years to build and is hoped will draw 50,000 visitors a year to watch the orca, minke, pilot, humpback and sperm whales that cruise the seas for deep-dwelling squid.
