Oxford City Council has resolved to approve the university’s plans for a new innovation district at Oxford North.
The development from St John’s College’s development company Thomas White Oxford comprises 940,000 sq ft of business and commercial floorspace, 480 new homes, a 180-bedroom hotel and 23 acres of open space and parks.
TWO will invest £100m into power, utilities, public space and infrastructure improvements to the A40 and A44.
The developer estimates the new hub will contribute around £150m a year to the economy.
The project has been nearly 10 years in the making and was initially mooted in the city’s Core Strategy adopted in 2012 and the Northern Gateway Area Action Plan in 2015.
William Donger, director at Thomas White Oxford, said: “[Oxford North] will deliver high-quality workspace for start-ups such as high-tech university spin-outs and businesses, much-needed housing including 168 affordable homes, investment in infrastructure for all forms of transport, new green spaces and a new sustainable community for Oxford in which we can all be proud.”
