The changing face of London

Aerial photographer Jason Hawkes has been taking to the skies of the UK capital to capture the life of the city from above for almost two decades. Here he shares some of his favourite shots showing the changing skyline of London.

“I often get asked to shoot views for CGIs and I always find it incredible a few years later when shooting the same scene how closely they match up,” says Hawkes.

“Over the years almost everything in London has changed and, of course, years ago I had to switch from shooting film to digital.

“The only thing that’s remained the same is the helicopters I shoot from. The cockpit is now digital rather than analogue but essentially they look the same, and I hang out of the side of the aircraft on a harness.

“These days I shoot over London almost every week, but I still love the exhilaration and the epic views from up there.”
