Hotel insolvencies hit five-year high

The number of UK hotel insolvencies hit a five-year high in 2019.

Hoteliers suffered a 60% jump in insolvencies over the year to September 2019, with the number of sites affected rising from 90 to 144.

According to accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young hotels are struggling to compete with Airbnb while the slowdown in the UK economy has cut the demand for conferences and awaydays.
