Christmas sales at Aldi have topped £1bn for the first time.
The discount grocer said that sales over the festive period were up by 7.9% on last year, boosted by an increase in its stores from 827 to 874 over the year. It was also helped by strong demand for prosecco and pigs in blankets.
The privately owned supermarkets group said it was on track to achieve its long-term goal of 1,200 stores in the UK by 2025.
Wm Morrison’s Christmas sales figures are due today, while J Sainsbury will announce its results tomorrow, and Tesco, Marks & Spencer and Waitrose will make announcements on Thursday.
