Crossrail delayed by three years as costs rise

The opening of London’s £18bn Crossrail line could be delayed by three years.

Transport for London said yesterday that Britain’s biggest infrastructure project may not open until late 2021 after problems completing station and signalling issues.

The scheme, to be named the Elizabeth Line, was due to open to passengers in December 2018.

Mike Brown, the London transport commissioner, has said the new timescale, which will cost TfL £1.35bn in lost revenue, was deliberately pessimistic.
