Christmas both good and bad for M&S

Like many of us this Christmas, Marks & Spencer had a good time regarding food, but it’s clothes left a lot to be desired.

The store’s grocery arm reported a 1.4% lift in like-for-like sales, but its clothing and homes division saw like-for-like sales fall by 1.7% and total sales plunge by 3.7% to £1.06bn.

For the past two years the retailer has shunned Black Friday promotions in an attempt to protect its profits.
