SIG suffers as construction slumps

Roofing materials supplier SIG has issued its second profit warning in three months, saying that buses has vanished in the UK.

The firm said that declining construction activity had seen sales in the UK fall by 19% during the second half of the year. It’s European business reported positive growth.

SIG added that sales fell further in December, with sales per working day a quarter lower than they were in November.

The news mirrors December’s construction purchasing managers index, which reported its sharpest fall in activity since March 2009, slumping to just 44.4.
