Bovis Homes – or Vistry Group, as it will be known following its Galliford Try buyout – has promised to incorporate “hedgehog highways” into all its housing developments.
The house builder will ensure that existing developments and all future schemes have holes in the fences to allow easy access for the spiny creatures, and has committed to build hedgehogs homes in open green spaces.
Its decision has been made as an attempt to halt the decline in the British hedgehog population, which has dropped from around 30m in 1950 to fewer than 1m, with 50% vanishing since 2000.
