“Shady” property empire of Africa’s richest woman

A cache of leaked secret documents have shown the shady deals behind the London wealth of Africa’s richest women.

Isabel dos Santos, the daughter of the former Angolan president, used funds from lucrative deals involving Angola’s land, oil and diamonds to build up a huge property portfolio while living in exile in the UK.

The documents show a web of 400 companies linked to Ms Dos Santos and her husband, Sindika Dokolo.

Dos Santos owns at least three properties in Kensington, worth an estimated £24m. In 2007 she bought a £8.65m house in Kensington without a mortgage, through an anonymous company registered on the Isle of Man. The property is now thought to be worth £13.3m.

She also owns properties in Lisbon, Monaco, the Algarve and Dubai.
