Disney streaming firm draws up Manchester office shortlist

Cake Solutions, a software company ultimately owned by Disney Streaming Services, has shortlisted three offices in its hunt for new premises in Manchester.

The company, which has been targeting premises measuring 8,000-12,000 sq ft, has selected three schemes in its hunt to relocate from its offices in Reddish, to central Manchester.

The shortlist is: 1 Tony Wilson Place; Barbirolli Square; and Circle Square (pictured).

The third floor of 1 Tony Wilson Place, which measures 176,500 sq ft, is currently vacant. If Cake Solutions chooses this office as its new home, it will join existing tenants Auto Trader, Jacobs and Amaze.

The tenant line-up at AEW’s Barbirolli Square scheme, comprising sister schemes 100 Barbirolli Square and 101 Barbirolli Square, includes Swedish bank Handelsbanken. All floors of the 155,551 sq ft 100 Barbirolli Square are empty.

Cake Solutions is also eyeing Bruntwood and Select Property’s 1.2m sq ft Circle Square, which signed Hewlett-Packard as its first major occupier in 2018.

In November last year, Bruntwood SciTech revealed its plans to expand Circle Square and submitted plans for a 14-storey 224,000 sq ft No. 3 Circle Square.

Cake Solutions was acquired by BamTech Media in 2017. In the same year, The Walt Disney Company acquired majority ownership of BamTech Media.

Bamtech sits within Disney Streaming Services, which operates the Walt Disney Company’s direct-to-consumer video businesses.

Cake Solutions’ shift to central Manchester comes during a dramatic shift towards streaming services. According to research by the Entertainment Retailers Association, the UK spent more than £3bn on streaming services in 2019.

Disney reportedly bagged 26.5m subscribers signing up for its Disney+ streaming service as of February this year, exceeding Wall Street expectations.

Cake Solutions was contacted for comment.
