Hammerson boss David Atkins pockets pay rise

Hammerson chief executive David Atkins has taken home nearly £1.5m in total earnings for 2019, up 33% on his previous year’s pay package.

He was paid a base salary of £655,000 during the year, alongside an annual bonus of £522,000 and a further £73,000 from long-term incentive awards.

In 2018, Atkins had base pay of £639,000, and was paid a total of £1.1m. He was paid £261,000 under the company’s long-term incentive plan that year, but had asked not to be considered for an annual bonus.

Executive directors received a circa 2.5% salary increase from April 2019.

Hammerson’s board collectively earned £2.1m, down 40% on the previous year. This is partly because Atkins was the only board member logging earnings for the full year.

Timon Drakesmith, previously chief financial officer, formally left the REIT in October; James Lenton replaced him in the job a month earlier.

The other two board members, Peter Cole and Jean-Philippe Mouton, ceased to be directors of Hammerson at the end of December 2018.
