Another volatile day on the London markets, with the FTSE 100 losing as much as 2.7% during trading before closing up 1.4% at 5,151. The FTSE 250 dropped by a similar percentage.
Property-focused names were largely missing from the lists of the top risers and fallers, although estate agency Foxtons made the cut with a fall of a fifth.
The REITs suffered nonetheless, with SEGRO down 7.8%, Derwent London dropping by 7.6% and Landsec down 2.4%. After cancelling its dividend and scrapping investment projects due to the coronavirus, NewRiver REIT plunged by 15%. British Land was a rare riser, up 1.8%. Intu gained as well, up 3.4% at 4.18p.
Data provided to EG by the London Stock Exchange Group shows that London-listed REITs lost close to a third of their combined market capitalisation between the start of the year and the end of last week.
