The property industry is being asked to get creative this weekend to support UK charities as they brace for losses of up to £4bn due to the cancellation of thousands of fundraising events.
The organisers of the London Marathon have teamed up with supporters of other major UK events to create the 2.6 Challenge, a nationwide fundraising campaign to save the UK’s charities.
The initiative needs the support of all UK industries in an effort to raise £67m for UK charities by the end of April.
The challenge will launch on Sunday 26 April, the day that should have marked the 40th London Marathon – the world’s largest one-day annual fundraising event, which raised £66.4m in 2019. The 2.6 Challenge asks the public to complete an activity of choice themed around the number 2.6 or 26, and fundraise/donate to your chosen charity (as long as it follows the government’s advice on exercise and social distancing).
UK companies can support the 2.6 challenge in the following ways:
- Engage staff and customers through internal and external communication channels, to drive awareness and participation in the challenge
- Donate or become a media partner at www.twopointsixchallenge.co.uk/
- Publicise its activities over the coming weeks using #TwoPointSixChallenge
- Consider matching funding of employees’ own efforts
