Rischo Leisure has received planning consent for the redevelopment of Langdon Hills Gold and Country Club, to provide 162 retirement homes and a 64-bedroom care home.
Thurrock Council members voted 6-1 to support the development, overriding officer recommendations of refusal due to harm to the green belt and lack of affordable homes. The council argued there was a need for retirement homes in the area.
The scheme has been designed by Condy Lofthouse Architects and Harris Irwin Architects.
It will see a new health-led community, with 84 bungalows for independent living for over-55’s, 36 extra-care apartments, and 42 close care apartments, as well as the care home and upgrades to the golf club and facilities.
