Battle over who owns temple comes to an end

The battle over an ancient temple and its secret vaults containing £16bn of treasure has come to an end.

Relatives of the last maharaja of Travancore have regained the right to manage Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple in the southern Indian state of Kerala after a lengthy court battle.

The Keralan state government had seized control of the temple in 2011 when a vault was opened and found to contain sacks of diamonds, jewellery and gold coins.

A second vault remains unopened, as the family fears unleashing a curse on the state.
