In a rising market in London, property companies nonetheless accounted for some of the day’s sharpest falls.
The FTSE 100 gained 1.8% over the session, closing at 6,292, while the FTSE 250 was up 1.4% at 17,420.
Two of the largest REITs in the FTSE 100 were among the index’s biggest fallers; Landsec trading down 1.1% at 559.4p a share, and British Land slipping 1% to 370.7p.
St Modwen Properties posted the second-worst fall across the FTSE 250, falling 3.7% to 353p a share.
A better day was had by Empiric Student Property, one of the best REIT performers for a second consecutive day. The company’s shares rose by almost 4% to close at 69p, a high of more than three months.
Self-storage company Big Yellow, which said today that business is picking up as the UK’s lockdown lifts, gained 2.8% to reach 1,013p.
