‘Confusing and illogical’ face mask requirement starts today

Experts have told ministers that rules on the use of face masks are confusing and illogical.

Shoppers will be required to wear one by law from today, but cinema-goers will not. Buying food at a takeaway will require a mask, but dining in will not, unless you are collecting your food yourself. Estate Agents, solicitors, accountants and financial services professionals will not have to make clients wear masks, but the rules do apply in high street banks, building societies and post offices.

Retailers including Sainsbury’s, Asda, Co-op and Costa Coffee say they will not enforce the policy.
