Market wrap: British Land falls after naming new chief exec

Shares at British Land have slipped, after the landlord formally appointed its new chief executive.

Earlier today, the REIT promoted chief financial officer Simon Carter to chief executive, to replace Chris Grigg at the end of the year.

The landlord was one of the biggest fallers on the FTSE 100, down by 3.25% to 342.4p.

Housebuilders were the main property winners on the stock exchange, after RICS’s latest residential market survey indicated that house prices have reached a four-year high. A 44% net balance of estate agents reported rising prices in August.

Barratt Developments rose 2.28% to 512p, while Persimmon was 2.75% up to 2,539p.

The FTSE 100 ended the day down 0.16% at 6,003.32. The FTSE 250 dipped 0.09% to 17,579.34.
