Tritax submits plans for 1m sq ft Merseyside logistics hub

Developer Tritax Symmetry has submitted proposals for a 1m sq ft logistics scheme at Symmetry Park in Merseyside.

The proposed logistics park is expected to generate around £51m of net additional GVA per annum.

Under the logistics developer’s partnership with the Land Trust, the organisation will transfer an area of its land to Tritax Symmetry for part of the scheme.

It will be built on land at the former Cronton Colliery in Knowsley, and will sit alongside a 65-acre nature trail park. Planning for the latter is due to be submitted before the end of the month.

The sites form part of the sustainable urban extension at Halsnead Garden Village, the largest combined housing and employment project in the Liverpool City Region.

Tritax said that a wide variety of stakeholders were involved with the pre-application process, including immediate and local residents and community groups, local businesses, The British Horse Society, Cronton Parish Council, Whiston Town Council, Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Members of Parliament, Liverpool City Region and statutory stakeholders.

Matt Claxton, planning director at Tritax Symmetry, said: “The pandemic has had a significant impact on the national economy and bringing forward this new site will create much-needed employment opportunities and attract inward investment to this area of the North West, at a time when the economy needs it most.”

Dominic Page, senior associate at Gerald Eve, which is advising Tritax Symmetry on the planning application, said: “Tritax Symmetry has a long-term commitment to the communities in which it develops, and the planning application has been structured in such a way as to enable the development’s benefits to be realised at the earliest opportunity.”

The project team also includes UMC Architects, Tier Consulting, The Environmental Partnership and Tyler Grange.
