Market wrap: British Land and Landsec lifted into FTSE’s top risers

Two of the largest REITs listed in London were among the FTSE 100’s most notable rising stocks today.

Both British Land and Landsec are still nursing steep share price falls following the coronavirus pandemic and UK lockdown. But their lifts in trading today made them the fourth- and third-highest-rising stocks respectively in the FTSE 100.

British Land’s shares were up 2.5%, or 8.6p, to 347.3p, while Landsec’s rose by 2.7%, or 14.1p, to 543.9p.

Away from the FTSE 100, the biggest REIT rise was seen by Hammerson, whose newly issued shares rose by 9.2% to trade at 8.08p. The company’s existing shares, quoted separately as it works through a recapitalisation, were up by 3.2% at 24.87p.

The FTSE 100 ended the day at 6,026, just 0.1% lower. The FTSE 250 rose by 0.7% to close at 17,677.
