The City of London Corporation has elected John Chapman as the new chairman of its markets committee.
Previously deputy chairman, Chapman replaces James Tumbridge who, after serving a three-year term, is now to assume the role of deputy chairman on the committee.
Chapman will work closely with the corporation’s policy and resources committee and capital buildings committee on the relocation of Billingsgate, New Spitalfields and Smithfield markets to the former Barking Reach Power Station.
Chapman has also been appointed president elect of the National Association of British Market Authorities.
He also serves on the Guildhall School of Music and Drama board of governors and the Port Health & Environmental Services Committee and is the chief executive of Legacy Data Solutions.
“We will continue to ensure the safety and profitability of our three historic markets and, through the markets co-location programme, secure their future,” Chapman said.
“I look forward to working with our market traders, market staff and market customers to ensure our vibrant, historic wholesale markets have every opportunity to thrive and grow for many years to come.”
