Invesco first to put portfolio up for BREEAM In-Use certification

Invesco Real Estate has become the first fund manager to submit a portfolio of assets for BREEAM’s new residential In‑Use certification.

The fund manager has submitted a UK residential portfolio of six assets to the scheme to measure, benchmark and improve the sustainability performance of the properties.

The BREEAM In-Use residential scheme was launched in May this year and is focused on providing a sustainability benchmarking tool for the growing build-to-rent sector.

Federated Hermes became the first landlord to achieve the certification on its 324-flat Cargo Building in Liverpool last month.

Invesco said the use of the scheme across its UK residential portfolio was part of its commitment to setting data-driven and measurable sustainability benchmarks across the business and underpinned its investment ethos to invest in housing in the long term in a “socially responsible and sustainable way”.

“This early action is important to ensure that we are applying the same sustainability standard to residential properties that we have long integrated into the management of our commercial projects,” said Anna Duchnowska, managing director and head of European asset management.

Last year the fund manager achieved the BREEAM In-Use certification across its €5bn (£4.6bn) European commercial and hotel portfolio.
