SEGRO has agreed to acquire land in central Paris to build an 800,000 sq ft underground last-mile logistics centre.
It has joined forces with French developer Icade to redevelop the Gobelins station in the 13th district of Paris.
SEGRO’s subterranean industrial scheme will include charging points for electric vehicles and delivery tricycles, as well as recycling points and a bike repair centre.
Icade will develop two office buildings of around 150,000 sq ft with a sports centre, urban greenhouses and a 3.2-acre garden on the Olympiades esplanade.
The masterplan has been designed by Data Architectes, Anyoji Beltrando and Wagon Landscaping.
Laurence Giard, general manager for France at SEGRO, said: “The growth in e-commerce is driving demand for logistics space in major urban centres, where land for development is a scarce resource.
“The underground logistics hub proposed at Gobelins railway station is a new and innovative model for delivering logistics space at scale in one of Europe’s most densely populated cities, within a brand new world-class mixed-use destination.”
