A château that has been in the same family for a thousand years has gone on sale for £2.5m, after the owners ran out of relatives willing to tale it on.
The current owners, the Count and Countess de La Rochefoucauld, inherited the 11th century Château de Verteuil two decades ago, but now cannot keep up with the bills.
None of the 58 members of the family listed in Le Bottin Mondain, the directory of French high society, were keen on taking on the castle and 90-acre park either.
