Manchester House of Fraser to become offices

Investec has unveiled plans to redevelop Manchester’s landmark Kendals department store, which is let to House of Fraser, into 500,000 sq ft of offices.

Under the proposals, the Kendal Milne building would be redeveloped to offer open-plan offices across seven floors.

A “more sustainable amount” of retail space, measuring around 50,000 sq ft, would remain on the ground floor.

Investec would also demolish the multi-storey car park behind the building, replacing it with a 12-story office block.

Other features include a rooftop extension to offer more floorspace.

The asset manager has launched a consultation, which will run until this end of the month. A planning application is set to be submitted later this year.
