Hammerson hires new Ireland director from Nama

Hammerson has appointed Connor Owens, formerly head of asset management and recovery at Ireland’s National Asset Management Agency, as its new director of Ireland.

The REIT’s Irish business includes Dundrum Town Centre, the ILAC Centre, and Swords Pavilions.

Owens joined Nama in 2012, where his responsibilities included developing strategies for mixed-use developments. He has also previously worked at the structured real estate finance arm at KBC Bank, and UBS in London.

Owens is expected to join the business in February.

His hire comes after Simon Betty, managing director for city quarters and developments, resigned from the landlord to take up a role at a European company.

Betty was Ireland director before he was promoted in February. At the time, he retained his responsibilities for the Irish portfolio while the landlord sought his successor.

Mark Bourgeois, managing director for the UK and Ireland, said: “Connor’s sector experience, combined with his detailed understanding of the Irish market, will be a real asset to the business.”

Owens said: “Hammerson Ireland has the strongest retail portfolio in the country, and in City Quarters there is a real opportunity to drive value by working with key stakeholders to develop a best in class mixed-use portfolio.”
