Nightingale chapel is just the tonic for SDL

SDL Auctions sold more than 200 properties across its two days of auctions in October, raising a total of £20m.

A chapel and a cottage with links to Florence Nightingale led bids in SDL’s residential auction. The lot – Lea Chapel and Cottage in Matlock, Derbyshire – comprised a 17th-century stone-built chapel with Gothic-style windows and a two-bedroom cottage on a large plot with the potential for an additional building, subject to planning permission. It sold for more than twice its £150,000 guide price, with the hammer coming down at £327,000.

There was strong buyer interest in properties all over the country. In Warminster, Wiltshire, a block of five one-bedroom flats at 42 & 44 East Street attractedfierce bidding battle which saw the property sell for £289,000 from a guide price of £180,000.

Interest was strong for commercial lots too, with the former Belper library in Derbyshire selling for £399,000, from a guide price of £300,000, and the former Scarrington Methodist Church in Nottinghamshire selling for more than double its £50,000 guide at £111,000.

Since the start of 2020, SDL Auctions has sold more than 1,000 lots and raised more than £150m.
