Philip Cropper leaves CBRE

Capital markets veteran Philip Cropper has left CBRE, after 35 years at the agency.

Cropper joined CBRE in 1985 from legacy firm Hillier Parker, where he was head of valuation before creating its investment consulting team.

He spent much of his career at CBRE in capital markets, including more than a decade as managing director of its Capital Advisors business in the UK, which he set up in 2004.

He played an instrumental role in developing CBRE’s business to include debt and structured finance, corporate finance and investment advisory. He set up its loan and special servicing platform in 2006, as its managing director.

For 14 years until the end of 2017 Cropper held a management board role at CBRE UK, during which he helped grow the business to more than £300m from £80m.

Cropper was most recently vice chairman of CBRE Hotels, where he oversaw the development of its corporate finance capabilities for nearly three years.

Following his departure, Cropper is pursuing non-executive and board advisory roles, focusing in particular on charities.

Cropper told EG: “CBRE has built itself into a great firm and I’ve loved the journey that I’ve been on. Bringing the team together at Capital Advisors was a fantastic period of time – at that point I think we actually started looking at real estate in a different way to our competitors.

“Developing the advisory side of the business, as well as the debt and structured finance [offer] and bringing the loan servicing business into play – those were some of the most rewarding pieces of the equation.

“I have met some fantastic and talented people at CBRE, both clients and within the business. I will always have very fond memories of it.”
