Cate Blanchett has been given the go-ahead for a bat-friendly art gallery for Britain’s 13th creepiest house.
The new building has been designed to look like a ‘thickened wall’ of the existing kitchen garden of Highwell House in East Sussex.
Previous plans were dismissed over fears they might harm a colony of protected bats.
Blanchett and playwright husband Andrew Upton bought the property in 2016 for £3.75m. Prior to that it had been the home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Doctor Who‘s Tom Baker and since the early 2000s had been a dilapidated squat scrawled over with pentagrams.
