A group of landowners has secured planning consent for a 4,500-home development at Waterbeach New Town East in south Cambridgeshire.
RLW Estates, a consortium made up of Royal London, St John’s College, Cambridge and Turnstone Estates, received permission at the committee meeting on 29 January.
Proposals will see a mix of home types and tenures, including 30% affordable housing, plus a secondary school, two primary schools and a sixth form centre.
There will be 270,000 sq ft of employment space and more than 86 acres of open space, including a 50-acre country park.
RLW has already secured consent for the relocation of Waterbeach Station after signing a section 106 agreement last month. The development will see more than £100m in contributions for local infrastructure.
The scheme neighbours Urban&Civic’s 6,500-home Waterbeach Barracks at the 716-acre former barracks owned by the Ministry of Defence Infrastructure Organisation.
