Reform rates so we can compete with online, urge top retailers

Some of Britain’s biggest retail chains have joined forces to call for an overhaul of business rates.

The bosses of 17 retailers including Tesco, Morrisons, Asda and Waterstones have said in a letter chancellor Rishi Sunak that they need the change to help them compete with online giants such as Amazon.

Retailers collectively pay £8bn in business rates each year.
