Ground Rents Income Fund names new chairman

Ground Rents Income Fund has named Barry Gilbertson as its next chairman and non-executive director, replacing Malcolm Naish in the role.

Naish will retire from his role at the company’s next annual general meeting. He has acted as chairman of the company since its initial public offering in 2012.

Gilbertson will take up an independent non-executive director role on 10 February.

Gilbertson has more than 45 years’ experience in property, including as an adviser to the Bank of England and as a past president of the RICS.

He is also a former partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers and former non-executive consultant to Knight Frank. He has held advisory appointments with the United Nations and the UK government.

Gilbertson was appointed as executive chairman of Custodian Capital, a subsidiary of Mattioli Woods, on 4 January.

His previous public company independent non-executive directorships include Custodian REIT, Granite REIT and RONA.

Among his voluntary roles, Gilbertson is chairman of the city of Bath as a Unesco world heritage site.

Naish said: “Barry’s extensive REIT and wider real estate experience will be a valuable addition to the board, helping position the company for future growth, while managing the current leasehold reform process effectively.”

Gilbertson added: “I am keen to support the board and the wider team in their considerable work navigating upcoming leasehold and regulatory reform in a way which protects the company’s interests, whilst making sure that leaseholders are treated fairly.”
