Amazon has opened its first physical store outside the US – a fully automated shop in Ealing.
The new store is similar in concept to the Amazon Go outlets already operating in the US, and will feature the same “just walk out” technology, but is branded Amazon Fresh.
The online retail giant has agreed to take 2,500 sq ft at British Land’s Ealing Broadway. It has confirmed it plans to “open a few across London” and will also look at other city centre locations.
Darren Richards, head of real estate at British Land, said: “Ealing already benefits from fantastic transport infrastructure and is set to undergo significant transformation with the opening of Crossrail and £1bn of wider investment that will continue to enhance its appeal.”
