BBC to announce another London exodus

Thousands more BBC staff will be moved to the regions under plans being announced today.

It is understood that entire departments, senior executives and popular programmes have been earmarked for relocation as part of the “Across the UK” initiative.

Up to 70% of BBC staff could be based outside London by 2027, up from 52% at present.

The corporation’s northern base in Salford, which employs 3,200 staff, is likely to be a big beneficiary of the regional expansion. A large number of news roles are thought likely to move to Leeds. The BBC is also building a tech hub in Newcastle and has opened expensive offices in Cardiff.
