Hammerson names AXA’s Badham as new development and repositioning boss

Hammerson has appointed AXA IM Real Assets’ UK head of development Harry Badham as its new chief development and asset repositioning officer.

In his new role, Badham will oversee the landlord’s development teams as they work on destination repositioning across the UK, Ireland, and France.

At AXA IM, Badham led £3.5bn of investment, development and repositioning projects from start to completion for funds and joint venture investors. These included 22 Bishopsgate, Assembly Bristol and 6 Pancras Square. He worked there for a decade.

Before that, Badham was investment director at developer Allied London, where he was involved in delivering more than £2bn of urban regeneration. Among these were the creation of Manchester’s 25-acre Spinningfields development and the Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury, WC1.

Badham began his career in 2000 at JLL, within the corporate finance department.

Rita-Rose Gagné, chief executive of Hammerson, said: “As our portfolio transforms and evolves, it is vital that our team has a broad and varied skills base. Harry will support this by bringing a creative mindset and extensive development and urban mixed-use experience.

“He also has extensive expertise in managing multiple stakeholders and partners, which will be key as we work on our strategy to maximise value for stakeholders.”

Badham said: “There has never been a greater chance to transform our city centres to create huge social and real estate value by making them more local, more sustainable and more connected. Hammerson’s portfolio offers significant opportunities to unlock this value over the mid to long term.”

His hire comes after Hammerson appointed Himanshu Raja, who was until last month finance chief at Countrywide, as its new chief financial officer earlier this week.
