Manchester appoints Wyman’s successor

Manchester City Council has recruited Becca Heron to take over as strategic director of growth and development, following the departure of Louise Wyman earlier this year.

Heron was executive director of economy and skills at Wigan Council, leading the town’s development. This included securing £16.7m from the Future High Streets fund and a development partner for the council’s Galleries shopping centre.

However, she began her public sector career in Manchester, as a policy and strategy officer for the city council. She also worked for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

Heron will take up the new role in mid-October.

Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council, said: “Manchester’s position as a growing, global city makes this one of the most exciting places in Europe.

“There is little argument that this role is one of the most interesting, though challenging, in local government. However, having held various high-profile roles across Greater Manchester, Becca is particularly well placed to tackle this role head on.”
