McVities factory deal takes the biscuit

The owner of the McVities biscuit factory in Glasgow will only be allowed to redevelop the site as housing if it builds another factory nearby.

McVities, which is owned by Turkish firm Pladis, will be told by the Scottish government and Glasgow city council that it will only receive planning permission for the Tollcross site if it agrees to plans for a new factory.

The home of the Hobnob is the last remaining McVities biscuit factory in Scotland.
