Plans to turn a former Kays catalogue site into a major life sciences centre have been given the go ahead by Leeds city council.
CEG wants to turn Drapers Yard on Marshall Street, within the Temple District of Leeds, into a new HQ and 100-bed clinic for Leeds-based LabCorp, which will be relocating from two sites in the city.
CEG submitted the new plans in March, just weeks after being given the green light to develop an 85,000 sq ft office scheme on the site.
The scheme will also provide rooftop amenity space with a green, sedum roof and cycle facilities, transforming a site that has been vacant since 2004.
Antonia Martin-Wright, head of investment at CEG, said that it was “an exciting new future for Drapers Yard”.
Work will start immediately with LabCorp aiming to move in next summer.
“Drapers Yard is at the heart of the Temple masterplan area, where we are working with Leeds City Council and other partners on the delivery of a thriving business destination south of Leeds City Station, with Temple Works as its cultural centrepiece. The Centre of Excellence for LabCorp further builds the huge momentum for inward investment that we are experiencing within the Temple District.”
