Tritax Big Box made super-profits during the pandemic and should face a windfall tax, according to Tax Justice UK.
The logistics space group was one of six companies that made £16bn in excess profits, along with drugs group AstraZeneca, online fashion retailer Asos, public service contractor Serco and mining company Rio Tinto.
Tritax Big Box’s profits jumped by 169% after demand for its warehouses hit record levels.
Advocacy group Tax Justice UK said that a pandemic profit levy of 10% on the global profits of the six companies could raise up to £1.6bn.
It wants the chancellor to introduce a one-off levy on pandemic profits, to increase the main rate of corporation tax to 25% and to close certain corporate tax breaks.
