Flexible office company X+Why is making its first foray outside of London, as it gears up to open a new 40,000 sq ft space at Hines’ Brindleyplace development in Birmingham.
Hines has partnered with the flex company to operate the first, second and third floors at 6 Brindleyplace, in a bid to meet reported growing demand for flexible space among existing tenants at the development and across the Midlands.
The two companies will jointly invest in the new facility, which will provide space for hot-desking, private offices and areas for video calls.
The space will also include a number of collaborative working areas, communal lounge facilities and meeting spaces. X+Why’s new space will open at the start of 2022, following a fit-out.
Rupert Dean, CEO of X+Why, said: “When we have been looking for options outside of London to expand our business, it was important to us we chose locations which gave us the best opportunity to meet our targets and provide spaces which go far beyond only providing space in which to work.
“Brindleyplace is a fantastic location centred on wellbeing and sustainability – two of our biggest drivers. It also has a wonderful environment that sits comfortably in its own part of the city, as well as being integrated into a larger business ecosystem.”
Raj Rajput, managing director of asset management in the UK for Hines, said: “We have seen increasing demand for flexible workspaces from companies of all shapes and sizes, particularly since the onset of Covid-19 as companies readjust and plan ahead for the future of their working environments.
“Our tailored workplaces offer at Brindleyplace has seen huge interest, and having X+Why here will complement our other occupiers.”
It comes as X+Why opens its new suburban site in Chiswick, a 30,000 sq ft space at Chiswick Works, W4. The scheme is designed to meet growing demand for flex offices in outer London as more people look for workspace near their homes post-pandemic.
